Banana Express

April 28th, 2008

Hello Friends,

Boy, it was sure a busy and fun weekend. We were part of the Conch Republic Independence celebration at the headquarters, The Schooner Wharf. Then on Friday morning at 7:00 AM we were honored to have been asked to appear live on Good Morning America. A special thanks to Andy Newman.

Sunday was a day off for everyone so I decided it was a perfect boat day. We decided not to take the dogs, so we let them swim until they were beat and put them back in the house to sleep it off. Cynderella and I then loaded the boat and took off. The wind was blasting at 25 MPH so we went to the backcountry. The backwaters of the Keys are like being in a live nature show. Because of the wind we anchored on the lee side of an island, and tucked ourselves close to hide from the wind. Mission accomplished! We have been perfecting our new boat drink, the Painkiller. It takes a lot of dedication and practice to succeed at this but we are on our way to the perfect one.

While anchored just off the mangrove island we see the wonderful wildlife start to unfold. There were several cormorants hanging out in the lower levels, some pelicans up higher and then we were entertained with an overhead aerobatic display by two small birds that were mating in a synchronized flight pattern. How amazing!

The cormorant is a pretty cool bird. These guys are excellent swimmers because they chase fish underwater. In the Orient, fishermen put a collar and leash around their neck to prevent them from swallowing fish, then they’re tossed overboard to catch dinner for their owner.

This day was definitely a 10 on a scale to 10. But then the boat ride home made it an eleven. We ran into a pod of dolphins and were again given a Sea World show by these amazing mammals. A toast to mother nature and to the sunset from my dock made this day one I will not soon forget.

This Week and Weekend
All new venues!

We are excited to start the bus again this week and head to some places we have never played. This Wednesday, April 30th our full band will be appearing at Jazziz Bistro in Ft. Lauderdale. This is a benefit performance for Reef Fest. The cost is $5 at the door and please bring an appetite. This is a great restaurant and the food will not disappoint you! The show starts at 9:00 PM.

Thursday starts a tour with our core band - Dave, Jason, and I. We wanted to get into some smaller venues and decided to take the three-piece version of the band on the road. We'll have the vintage Johnson outboard-motor-turned-margarita maker along on this bus trip, so don't miss your chance to try out a two-stroke margarita!

Thursday May 1 at Square Grouper at Castaways Marina in Jupiter FL. This is the place that Alan Jackson shot his music video, "Five O’clock Somewhere". The fun starts at 7:00 PM.

Friday, May 2 finds us at The Twisted Conch in Cape Coral. We will start at 6:00 PM and we know there will be a crowd coming, so come early - stay late!

Saturday, May 3, we have an afternoon performance at Nav-A-Gator at Desota Marina on Lake Suzy (near Arcadia FL). The party - KEYS STYLE - starts at 2:00 PM.

Sunday, May 4th we get an early start on Cinco de Mayo. We will perform at Woody's Waterside in St. James City on Pine Island, FL. Our party will start at 1:00 PM - hope to see you there!

If you are in any of these areas, please stop by and share some time with us! We are looking forward to seeing old friends, and meeting new ones. If you are not in the area, we will be thinking of you and will send you tropical breezes.

Until we do meet, or meet again, may the tides keep pulling you back.
