A Call To Arms - The Vandenberg
This is a call to arms from the Conch Republic. I don’t normally do this but there is a great reef project called The Vandenberg that is in jeopardy and needs our help. Some wonderful folks have been working for over 12 years on sinking this great ship. Fuel cost, insurance, environmental cleanup of the ship have caused unanticipated cost overruns to the tune of $2.3 million dollars. The Vandenberg was a WW II troop transport ship and later transformed into a missile tracker that was instrumental in our space program in the 60s. This 522-foot ship is scheduled to sink just off Key West on May 15 to become one of the largest manmade reefs ever. This is the international year of the reef, so let’s all show our support.
Update: The sinking of the Vandenberg was postponed until after Hurricane Season. We expect the date to be announced by fall of 2008.
You can help!
I was asked to write a song about this great ship and the treasure she is about to become. The Vandenberg song is available for download exclusively on their website for a $5.00 donation. 100% of the proceeds go to this cause. Here is your chance to help make history by making a donation to this great cause and getting some music to boot. There are also larger donation packages, which are wonderful opportunities as well. Let’s all celebrate the Vandenberg!
ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
Thank you, and may the tides keep pulling you back!
